Andricus quercustozae

Gall wasp Andricus quercustozae

Description

The gall of the asexual generation is formed on oak twigs. This gall looks a lot like the marble gall (A. kollari), but is much larger, 20 to 40 mm, and it has a pointy dot in the middle on top and a crown of these elevations encircling this centre. It is commoner in the Mediterranean area in the south of Europe. The gall remains on the tree for several years and can become inhabited by some other insects, e.g. some species of Hymenoptera. The adult leaves the gall through an exit hole on the lateral side.
