Description

They can be found from May to June on oak catkins (Quercus robur, Quercus petraea). They are about 2 mm in size. The gall contains one single cell. The wasp pupates in the gall and emerges in May-June. This generation was previously named Andricus pilosus as it was believed to be a different species. The asexual generation forms an artichoke-like gall containing a single inner cell. It is found on the terminal and axillary buds of oak trees from June to September. It is from 20 × 10 mm to 30 × 20 mm in size. It is green, although after maturity this changes to a light brown.
