Andricus conglomeratus
Gall wasp Andricus conglomeratus
Description
Andricus conglomeratus is a gall wasp that induces characteristic round galls on oaks (Quercus spp.). The galls are nearly spherical, reaching up to 2 cm in diameter, and often occur in clusters. They are common, particularly on small bushy trees. Gall development occurs throughout the summer, maturing in late autumn. While the galls do not cause significant damage to mature trees, heavy infestations on young seedlings can severely stunt their growth. The species is distributed across Europe, mainly in warm and temperate regions.
