Aceria carinifex

Mite Aceria carinifex

Description

Aceria carinifex mite is extremely small, measuring only around 200-300 micrometers in length. They possess a transparent body with a worm-like appearance. These mites have specialized mouthparts adapted for piercing plant tissues and feeding on the cell contents. Aceria carinifex mites are gall-inducing pests. They cause the formation of galls on the leaves and buds of maple trees, particularly on Acer campestre (field maple). These galls are small, blister-like structures that develop as a result of the mites\' feeding activities. It is generally considered as minor pests and do not cause significant harm to the overall health of maple trees. The galls may cause slight deformations or discoloration on the affected leaves or buds, but they rarely result in serious damage or tree decline.
